New Glycine AIRMAN Special II Created for Purists

Glycine experts and aficionados have long been waiting for the brand's new AIRMAN model to be housed in a 42-mm-in-diameter case. Now their dream has come true - Glycine has unveiled the AIRMAN Special II featuring 24-hour display.

The design of the new Glycine AIRMAN Special II pays tribute to the pioneering times when the brand introduced its first watches with world time function. Those models appeared back in the 1950s.

Many experts of the brand have highly appreciated the very first AIRMAN models -they were developed as functional watches that featured neither frills not additional functions - real timekeeping companions for purists.

According to Katherina Brechbuhler, CEO of Glycine Watch, the team of the brand has been pleased to create a new model aimed at such aficionados, having developed the AIRMAN Special II specially for them. The model, providing clear 24-hour display and two time zones, is modestly sized by Glycine standards.

The AIRMAN Special II has the hands and the rotating bezel that are based on the original models. The date is provided with a magnifying lens in sapphire glass. The dial has a really unusual feature - there is 12 in the top part and 24 in the bottom part. The majority of watches feature these numbers the other way round - but the positioning of '12' and '24' on the dial of the AIRMAN Special II corresponds to the position of the sun that is at its highest point at midday and at its lowest point at midnight.

The sapphire glass case back provides true watch aficionados with the pleasure of resting their eyes on the finely decorated rotor of the Eta movement 2893-2, featuring Cotes de Geneve and AIRMAN engraving in black. The AIRMAN Special II is available in a limited edition of only 100 pieces.

Aerowatch Renaissance Tourbillon - Exquisite Sophistication and Refinement

Watch manufacturer AEROWATCH SA has created a one-of-a-kind 18-K rose gold timepiece with Tourbillon. The new timepiece of AEROWATCH is a bold attempt of the Jura-based company to explore new horizons in the horology field.

The 42-mm-diameter case of the AEROWATCH is crafted in 18-K rose gold. This classic gold case was produced in the workshops of a manufactory located in Le Noirmont. It demonstrates a domed sapphire crystal on the side of the dial and a transparent flat sapphire crystal on the side of the movement.

The movement, decorated with 'Cotes de Geneve' pattern, provides a 5-day power reserve obtained with help of two barrels. The future owner of the remarkable timepiece may have his watch personalized with a special engraving.

The silvered dial is 'engine-turned' in the left center part. It demonstrates a circular satin-finished flange with minute-circle and an aperture found at 9 o'clock allows to rest one's eyes on the complete rotation performed by the regulating organ in one minute.

To come up with an extra touch of refinement, the hands, serving as the hour-symbols, are rose colored finely matching the case. The timepiece embraces the wrist with a genuine alligator watch strap fitted with a personalized 18-K rose gold pin buckle.

This new timekeeping creation of AEROWATCH SA has joined the Renaissance collection. The watch is presented in a very exclusive limited edition of only 10 pieces.

Carl F.Bucherer Presents: Innovative Patravi Chronograde

The Patravi Chronograde created by Carl F.Bucherer took two years of thorough development. As a result, there appeared the first ever timepiece equipped with six useful functions, as well as a retrograde hour display for the chronograph function. Altogether, the watch offers seven useful functions that are the following:
- a chronograph
- flyback function
- large date
- annual calendar
- power reserve indication
- retrograde hours totalizator.

The most intricate function of the Patravi Chronograde is the chronograph with the retrograde hours indicator. Following one rotation of the centrally-placed chronograph hand, the minute totalizator positioned at 9 o'clock moves along one more graduation mark. This is linked via a gearing mechanism to the hours counter featured between 7 and 8 o'clock, rotating on its own. The corresponding hand moves down through a special semi-circular scale. When the hours counter finds itself at the end of its scale, it shoots back at once to its starting point to start moving again from this position.

This function has been specially elaborated for those who have extremely little time at their disposal. Imagine, for example, pilots in the cockpit, when they are in the landing queue and it's necessary to fly round in standard loops. Its takes the pilots too much time to stop the chronograph each time and, prior to every new circuit, re-zero and re-start the chronograph again. The owners of the Patravi Chronograde will be able to press the push-piece one time to restart the chronograph directly, with no need for an intermediate stopping action.

Besides a big-sized date display, the Carl F.Bucherer sports a highly complicated calendar responsible for taking into account the months with 30 or 31 days. The owner of the timepiece will have to make just one adjustment at the end of February -it is necessary to use the crown to reset the calendar completely for the following year.

The Patravi Chronograde is characterized by extreme masculinity. The steel case of the watch measures 44mm in diameter, and boasts 50-meter water-resistance. The overall look of timepiece is finely completed by a leather or robust high-grade steel bracelet.

Instrument BR03-92 Military - Military Design by Essence

Bell and Ross has recently introduced a new kaki model to join its BR03 range. The Instrument BR03-92 Military features a resolutely military look. The 42-mm masculine watch is light, waterproof, resistant and has an easy-to-read dial. The timepiece seems to be created for those who dream about roaming in the jungle, somewhere at the other end of the world.

Instrument BR01 XXL developed by Bell and Ross earlier enjoyed commercial and aesthetic success. However, some customers considered that an oversized diameter might not be ideal for everyday wearing.

Bell and Ross BR03 created in 2007 is just the right choice for those who appreciate more 'classical' and reasonable sizes. The timepiece measuring 42 mm in diameter has become a true alternative to the BR01 with its 46-mm case.

Created in the same spirit as its 'big sister', the BR03 model greatly resembles a cockpit clock in a plane. It has been created as a professional instrument by essence. Following the steps of the BR01, the new model represents an essentially utilitarian watch, designed to appeal specially to pilots.

As all the models developed by Bell and Ross, the Instrument BR 03-92 Military reflects the four basic principles of the brand:Readability, Functionality, Precision,Waterproofness.

An authentically military version of the BR03 pays tribute to soldiers who became the first professionals who used a wristwatch as a device necessary for fulfilling their mission.

Corresponding to the technical specifications of army, the kaki dial offers supreme readability by day and night. The sapphire glass is scratchproof. The timepiece is equipped with the movement of high precision.

The same as all truly military watches, the non-reflective matt black color of the BR03's case and the kaki dial, the color suggested by the military uniform, make it an excellent camouflage timepiece.

Bell and Ross Instrument BR03-92 Military is available at the price of 2,300 Euro.

Armand Nicolet L07 - Smart Investment Ahead in Time

The new Armand Nicolet Limited Edition has taken up a new challenge and joined the exclusive world of chronographs. Following the original series equipped with small seconds functions, Armand Nicolet L07 has been created in a new chronograph version.

The new Armand Nicolet L07 watch is united in a limited edition of 140 pieces. The timepiece reveals an amazing range of color combinations of its dials and straps. Twenty pieces have incorporated the prominent movement VENUS 175 with column wheel, while the rest of 120 pieces are equipped with the VENUS 188 with 'navettes' system.

This collection has overcome the brand's tradition of developing only very finely decorated movements, the beauty of which is revealed through transparent case backs in sapphire crystal and dial openings.

The plate and the bridges of the movements are worth special attention - they are fully decorated with a new motif called 'Cote de Nicolet' by Armand Nicolet. First, the surface of the plate and bridges acquires perfect polishing. During the next stage, the plate and bridges are manually decorated with help of a special tool with an ivory point. The tool is used for scraping the surface, thus creating nice lines every 2 mm.

The pattern has been inspired by the decoration applied in the 1930s only on high-end movements developed during that period. All the work performed on the movement recuperates the signature hand-craftsmanship of Armand Nicolet. The heads of the screws are so flat that if to look at them from a front view, they seem to be black, due to the ideal light reflection.

The balance wheel has incorporated the counter-weight system. The movement, with a 18000-vibrations per hour beat, offers 32-hour power reserve. The same as the Limited Editions introduced earlier, the movement is provided with the engraving of the limited number on the frame opening on the dial.

The Armand Nicolet L07 watch goes in a special wood case, accompanied by the Certificate of Authenticity. With the value destined to increase over the years, the timepiece has been created for collectors who highly appreciate not only the excellence of the watch's mechanical execution, but also the smart investment ahead in time.

Villemont Arctic Explorer Limited Edition Lewis Pugh

On 15th July 2007, Lewis Gordon Pugh, famous explorer from Britain, was courageous enough to swim 1km through the North Pole's freezing waters in temperatures of - 1.8 degrees Celsius. As dictated by the Channel Swimming Association Rules, the explorer swam wearing just a swimming costume, cap and goggles. To fulfill this amazing record and a physically-challenging feat, Lewis Gordon Pugh came through a long and intensive preparation period. The swim took the explorer 18 minutes and 50 seconds. He broke a new record – no one has ever swum such a great distance in such extreme temperatures as waters of the North Pole. The reason Lewis Gordon Pugh decided to undertake such a challenge is to visibly demonstrate and attract more public attention to the issue of global warming with its consequences and the urgency of the situation.Villemont became the official timekeeper for the swimming challenge. The watchmaking company launched a limited edition watch collection created specially to mark the occasion. Villemont also decided to donate part of the proceeds from the limited edition watches' sale to support the WWF's fight against global warming, and saving of the polar regions. The unique timepiece, called 'Arctic Explorer Limited Edition Lewis Pugh,' represents a sporty-styled automatic chronograph characterized by the mixture of masculinity and elegance. The timepiece was featured on the wrist of Lewis Gordon Pugh throughout his challenging voyage to the North Pole. The Villemont Arctic Explorer watch has been produced in a limited edition of just 50 pieces. The timepiece has incorporated the Solar Navigator navigation system that provides its user with easy orientation with help of the sun position and shade. All 50 Arctic Explorer watches proved to function perfectly in the conditions of the extreme temperatures. The designers of the Villemont watch opted for British Racing Green as the major color of the timepiece. Their choice of color reminds everyone about the illustrious British racing cars around at the turn of the 20-th century. The green color also hints at Lewis Pugh's environmental campaign and his attempt to raise public awareness of the problem of global warming. The movement beating in the heart of the Arctic Explorer reflects the Villemont tradition and corresponds to the top standards in terms of testing and water-resistance. The mechanism is also special for its appealing aesthetics. The rotor bridge and the oscillating weight are fully decorated with the 'Clou de Villemont', the one-of-a-kind V-shaped pattern of the brand. All these remarkable details may be admired through a transparent sapphire case-back.The bezel of the Villemont watch is provided with the Solar Navigation System, a really useful tool when exploring in extreme conditions. The system represents a manual version of the universal GPS system that allows the wearer to navigate in all conditions with no need to rely on batteries or the satellites position. The Solar Navigation System is easy to use - it is necessary to align the number on the bezel that corresponds to the hour indicated on the dial with the hour hand.

Unique Musical Wristwatch

Reuge Company
Reuge, a Swiss music box producer, has developed a unique musical wristwatch under the brand name of Mermod Freres. The timepiece does not simply offer the 'minute repeater' function - it does not have a hammer striking a bell. Instead, the musical wristwatch has incorporated special disks activating metal strips, the same way as in our grandparents' old music boxes. The Reuge Company was established in 1886. It represents the only remaining music box maker in Switzerland and only one of three in the world. It is managed by Kurt Kupper, the new CEO of the brand. Reuge products range in price from 300 to 120,000 Swiss francs.Reuge musical creations bear a distinctive touch of modernity. Just imagine, the latest of the brand's music boxes was designed like a V-shaped engine exclusively for Ferrari!
Innovative Ideas
Kurt Kupper has initiated a few innovative ideas - the company has developed the following original music boxes:music boxes for Maybach automobiles;bell-boy hat-shaped music boxes for all the just-married at the Peninsula Hotel in Tokyo, with the waiting list completed till the end of 2008; Harry Potter music boxes, including a 'musical piece of furniture' equipped with an LCD screen and DVD player; and even special music boxes for the BirdLife animal welfare foundation with Her Royal Highness Princess Takamado of Japan as the foundation's Honorary President.
Mermod Freres' Acquisition
Reuge has recently acquired the Mermod Freres watch company, with the foundation dating back to 1816. The company was established in Sainte-Croix, also the home of Reuge. Mermod Freres specialized in the development of complicated watches and mechanical music boxes. Unfortunately, after the crash of 1929 the production was stopped. After almost 80 years, the Mermod Freres watch company has been revitalized, having presented a world first - the Primo 4. The development of the timepiece has been based on the four-year research. The new watch has successfully mixed two types of savoir-faire – the art of watchmaking and the art of mechanical music.
One-of-a-kind Musical Watch
The movement of the Primo 4 represents a sophisticated mechanism that comprises 577 elements. The 'jukebox for the wrist' is mechanically programmed to play four melodies, produced by four discs visible on the watch's dial.
Complicated Disk-Support
The discs are fixed onto a complicated support crafted in blue colored steel. They have tiny pins at designated locations on their lower faces . With the discs rotating, the pins raise the musical strips, or so-called teeth, of the metallic comb that is found underneath them. This way the pins make the teeth vibrate and play the melody. This disc-support gets activated by a push-button placed at 7 o'clock. It rotates in two steps. First of all, it puts the disc between 3 and 5 o'clock - the right place to start the tune. This is the discs' neutral zone, an area with no pins. The support then moves the disc to 6 o'clock, just above the red arrow, and starts the rotation. The pins of the disc get into contact with the comb's teeth, this way making them play the melody that lasts 10 seconds.
Energy Supply
No wonder that such an intricate mechanism requires a lot of energy. The Primo 4 has two distinct barrels. The first barrel is for the watch movement, with the hour and minute indications, while the second barrel is for the additional musical mechanism. The two barrels are wound with help of the crown found at 3 o'clock. To wind the musical mechanism it is necessary to turn the crown clockwise, and to wind the watch movement it is necessary to turn it anticlockwise.
Mechanism's Performance
For setting the time, it is required to press the pusher at 10 o'clock to release the crown. To play the tunes, it is necessary to use a second pushbutton positioned at 8 o'clock. The sound transmission quality has been enhanced by a double case back that was provided with a system of tiny vent holes serving as a sound amplifier and vibrator. As for the musical performance, it has also been improved with a sapphire crystal, specially developed to come up with optimal acoustical features.
Watch's Design
The design of the Primo 4 has been inspired by the shape of a pocket watch produced by Mermod Freres. The 45.5-mm case of the watch has been crafted in rose, yellow, or white gold. It is characterized by supreme elegance. The rotating disks add something magic to the whole look of the timepiece.
Plans for Future
The Primo 4 is available in three limited-edition series of 50 pieces. The unique creation will be followed by the development of a whole collection of musical watches during the next few years. In 2008, Mermod Freres promises to introduce its Mono-Disc Watch. The timepiece will incorporate only one disc in the form of a dial pivoting on itself. Then the brand has planned to introduce a ladies' line, and even unforeseen 'musical jewels'.

Timepiece inspired by world of Jules Verne

Vulcania is the name Fabrice Gonet has chosen for his second watch recently designed. The amazing timekeeping creation was inspired by the world Jules Verne described in his books and inherited its name from the mysterious Vulcania Island. The watch is designed in the spirit of the novelist's imaginary machines, still keeping in touch with the modern world. The ground-breaking movement of the timepiece represents a gyrotourbillon absolutely unique to HD3. The mechanism was developed in cooperation with BNB. The naval world with its great ships and the first submarines served as a source of inspiration for all the details featured by the timepiece. The zest of Vulcania is the vitality of the movement parts displayed. The Vulcania watch shows the time in the most unconventional way one may think of. It shows the hours on a wheel through a lateral porthole, while the minutes are displayed on a disc reminding a ship's Chadburn telegraph. The indicator of the 80-hour power reserve is reminiscent of a sextant. The design of the timepiece is also special due to a porthole that allows seeing the winding mechanism of the movement. The case back of the Vulcania sports a porthole on the main plate created in the spirit of the Nautilus submarine. The map of the mysterious Vulacania Island together with its coordinates has been engraved on the sapphire glass back. The technical development and designing process of the Vulcania watch required about 2000 hours of work. As for the bracelet of the timepiece, it provides improved ergonomics and supreme comfort of wearing. Its folding clasp was exclusively developed by HD3 Complication. The watch's strap offers the choice between black rubber, matt black crocodile skin or black vintage leather. The Vulcania has been produced in a strictly limited edition of 11 pieces in titanium and platinum.

New Version of Iconic Panerai Radiomir

New Versions
At the 2007 SIHH the iconic Panerai Radiomir model will house the P.2003 Calibre 10 days automatic GMT. It will be revealed with two new versions:
Radiomir Black Seal - a watch with a ceramic case, powered by the hand-wound movement OP XI;
Radiomir Cronografo - a watch with a steel case, powered by an automatic movement.
Innovative Process
To create the new Radiomir Black Seal Ceramic, the Officine Panerai Manufacture has worked out an entirely new process. It implies a high-tech treatment of isostatic pressure necessary for enhancing the watch's technical characteristics.

As a result, the manufacture's watchmakers got the material interesting both for its technical characteristics and simply from the aesthetic angle. They used Zirconium Oxide ceramic that has been moulded from powder while applying a process of isostatic pressure. It allowed to improve all the advantageous characteristics of the ceramic material:
extreme durability, about five times bigger than 316L steel,
remarkable resistance to a wide temperature range,
great resistance to scratches, damages and corrosion.

Panerai Radiomir Black Seal Ceramic
Panerai Radiomir Black Seal Ceramic is equipped with a hand-wound mechanical Panerai OPXI movement that comprises 17 jewels. The COSC Chronometer Certificate mechanism is beating at 21,600 alternations per hour and offers 56-hour power reserve.

The ceramic case of the Radiomir watch measures 45 mm in diameter. The black dial of the watch features a sandwich construction. You will notice luminous Arabic numerals, small seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock, and one more original detail - a Torpedo reproduced at 6 o'clock.

The Panerai Radiomir Black Seal Ceramic goes on a black leather strap with a steel buckle provided with special hard black coating. The production of the timepiece will be limited to 1,000 pieces.

Initial Radiomir Model
Radiomir was destined to become the first wristwatch developed by Officine Panerai in the beginning of 1940-s. The model was equipped with some technically innovative features, including supreme readability of the dial, a winding crown, a screwed back and a distinctive cushion shape of the case.

The first Radiomir model with its basic and simple characteristics became the forerunner of all Panerai watches to come. The present-day Radiomir models feature sporty yet discrete shapes. The technologically advanced timepieces are produced from precious materials and are powered by high watchmaking movements.

Antoine Preziuso Presents: 3Volution Tri-tourbillon

The first glance dropped at the recently developed 3Volution watch by Antoine Preziuso deeply impresses by its unusual appearance. Abraham-Louis Breguet invented the tourbillon 204 years ago. The invention was meant to offset the disadvantages caused by the influence of gravity when a timepiece is positioned vertically. Today Antoine Preziuso managed to render this influence totally insignificant and virtually null. The hand-winding movement of the Antoine Preziuso Tri-Tourbillon winds a twin barrel responsible for utmost efficiency and an advantageous power-reserve. The last wheel and the gear-train's pinion drives the heart of the whole system. A circular roller is notable for carrying three flying tourbillons. The tourbillons are set equidistantly from the roller's center. Their respective axes form an equilateral triangle. Every tourbillon of the Antoine Preziuso 3Volution Tri-tourbillon makes a complete rotation around its axis in one minute. As for the entire roller, it requires just 2 minutes and 15 seconds to make one revolution. To enhance the precision, the speed of rotation of every tourbillon is accelerated by the double revolution. The frequencies of the three regulating organs keep pace with each other due to the resonance created thanks to the flange featured around the roller's perimeter that serves as a resonating chamber. The major principle of the physical phenomenon known as resonance implies that each oscillator moves harmoniously with the two other oscillators in a self-compensating way. The three oscillators are vibrating at an average, steadfast and almost imperturbable rate. Moreover, the amplitude of each of the oscillators is considerably increased when the resonance is created. The Antoine Preziuso 3Volution Tri-Tourbillon watch has opened a new fascinating chapter in the history of horology. Besides the remarkable technical innovation and the real breakthrough in terms of precision, the choreography magic created by the three flying tourbillons simply provides an amazing view that makes one's heart beat stronger.

Mercury Chronograph FL 301 - Wonder of Innovations

The Mercury Chronograph FL 301 to join the new Favre-Leuba collection, has been inspired by two unique events. First of all, the timepiece commemorates the Favre Manufacture's official registration in Le Locle in 1737. Then the watch is meant to remind about an extremely rare eclipse of the planet Mercury by Venus that occurs once in 396 years. The Mercury Chronograph FL 301, the same as every models from the Mercury collection, is equipped with an automatic Favre-Leuba caliber. The timepiece has been created in a number of versions, but all the timepieces are characterized by perfection in every detail. Each model is special for its unique design and the perfection of brushed or polished surfaces. Also noteworthy is the perfect integration of The system of push buttons and the bridge are ideally integrated, with the latter harmonizing nicely with the case shape. The exposed screws reveal engravings of the famous hourglass, the logo of the Maison. The case back shows the eclipse of 1737, also hinting at the Favre-Leuba origins. The dial of the Mercury watch composed of 27 parts is refined due to its complex nature and powerful due to the guilloche and indexes. You will also notice the Greek letter sigma, indicating that the indexes are crafted in solid gold. The solid gold hands imply thorough attention to detail and top quality. The Maison Favre-Leuba has developed two exclusive watchmaking systems - the 'Embedded Running Indicator' (ERI) and the 'Bidirectional / Crown Locking System' (B/CLS).The ERI represents a continuously rotating disc featuring the hourglass logo decoration. Being partially hidden, the system reflects the duality of the Mercury-and-Venus conjunction in the year of the Favre-Leuba foundation, symbolizing the watch's vitality. The innovative B/CLS patented by the brand is incorporated by all Mercury models. The system is used for preventing an accidental manipulation of the crown that may result in unnecessary changes of the date or time. In fact, the watches have two crowns - an inner crown has to be turned clockwise or anti-clockwise to unlock the system, and only then the outer crown can be pulled out for the date or time adjustment. There is a red visual indication on the bridge featured between the two crowns showing whether the system is unlocked. The system offers one more innovation – it is possible to wind up the movement by hand independently from the B/CLS system position. The system also guarantees waterproofness of the watch, even with the unlocked system and the outer crown pulled for the adjustment. The system provides utmost caliber protection – the caliber is well-protected from outside air, micro-particles and humidity. The folding clasp also represents an exclusive and patented system of the brand, being based upon an innovative spring and pushers technology. Two pins of the strap guarantee a better hold implying greater security, an important feature especially when the Mercury watches are worn during sports activities. The buckle of the strap has been designed to limit any direct contact between the wearer's skin and metal - the longer part of the strap passes between the wrist and the buckle, offering supreme comfort of wearing. The Mercury collection reminds everyone about the notable events back in 1737, paying tribute to the three-century old history of the Maison Favre-Leuba.
